"We'll recycle the corks, while you enjoy your glass of wine." This is the slogan of the Dutch corkrecycling organisation, called Kurkrecycling Nederland. Starting in 1999, this organisation is engaged in collecting winecorks all over the country for recycling. Cork can perfectly be recycled. After washing and grinding, the used corks will be mixed with new cork and processed into innersoles for shoes, isolation material (durable and ecofriendly), coasters, and so on. Where does the cork come from? Cork is the bark of the cork-oak, one of the few tree species that doesn't die when removing its bark. Most of the cork-oaks grow in Portugal, where the worlds largest cork industry is located. Cork-oaks also grow in Spain, Algeria, Italy and France but not at such a large scale as in Portugal The cork-oak has to gro for 20 years before the bark can be removed for the first time. After the forst removal of bark it takes 9 years for subsequent removals. The tree can be "peeled" approximately 9 times without causing any damage. Collection point Klein Profijt Because we support the re-use of cork, we have decided to support Kurkrecycling Nederland by collecting corks. Used corks can be delivered at Klein Profijt during opening hours. Next to the collection box you can find more information about this initiative.
